Almost all states are unanimous to implement NEP: Pradhan at Odisha Lit Fest 22

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: Almost all states in our country are unanimous to implement the National Education Policy, though they seek to have their own implementation framework, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Odisha Literary Festival (OLF).
The Union Minister on Saturday (November 5) inaugurated the 10th edition of Odisha Literary Festival, organized by the New Indian Express. “Reading is Becoming: The 21st Century Leader” – the first session of the event begun with Union Minister Pradhan’s address.
“Mother tongue learning at pre-primary and primary level will only strengthen his or her educational foundation. The child can go ahead to learn other languages at a later stage. The new National Education Policy emphasises on teaching and learning in the mother tongue till upto Class III to nurture creative thinking among children,” Pradhan said.
He further said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said every regional language is a national language. Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, and Odia are all national languages. English can be a commercial language.
“Opposition to the NEP is political. All States are unanimous in implementing the education policy,” Pradhan said.
“Odisha has one wealth now, it’s education. Reading has always been central to the character of Odisha. If anything that has been with us for hundreds of years it is our education, literature and culture,” Pradhan added.
