ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced Thursday (June 30) the addition of graduate transfer Matt Finesilver to the Wolverine program. Finesilver, a three-year NCAA qualifier at Duke, will have one year of eligibility remaining.

“We are very excited to have Matt join our program,” said Bormet. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for his family, and we know we are getting a serious, high-character student-athlete in Matt. He’s a hard worker and loves to compete. I’m excited to see what he can accomplish here. I think he’s going to fit in well with our guys and our program.”

Finesilver posted an 80-29 record at 174 pounds over his three competitive seasons at Duke, including a 29-9 record last season — during which he was ranked as high as seventh nationally by InterMat. He placed top four at the ACC Championships all three years at Duke, including a runner-up finish in 2019, and reached the NCAA Round of 16 last season. He has earned bonus points in more than half of his collegiate wins to date with 10 falls, 10 technical falls and 21 major decisions.

A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Finesilver is a two-time Duke graduate, earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology before adding a graduate degree in management studies this past spring. He was twice named to the NWCA Scholar All-America team and is a three-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree. He is one of four brothers to wrestle for the Blue Devils, along with his twin Josh and older twin brothers Mitch and Zach.

Finesilver is projected to wrestle at 184 or 197 pounds for the Wolverines.
