ANN ARBOR, Mich. — For the third consecutive academic year, graduate student Alice Hill of the University of Michigan women’s track and field and cross country teams was named to the Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday (June 22).

An Ann Arbor native who is currently pursuing her graduate degree in ecology and evolutionary biology, Hill was named to the first team for the second year in a row, after earning second-team honors in 2019-20.

Michigan has now had an Academic All-American in women’s track and field/cross country in 18 of the last 22 seasons.

She joins Erin Finn (2016-18) and Sue Schroeder (1984-86) as the only three-time Academic All-Americans in program history. The only other woman in any other sport at Michigan to earn the honor three times in their career is women’s basketball’s Diane Dietz (1980-1982).

Hill was granted inclusion on the national team in a vote of CoSIDA members earlier this month after earning Academic All-District V honors.

In addition to the three Academic All-America awards, Hill concludes her distinguished career as the 2020-21 Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient for the University of Michigan and the 2021 NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for women’s cross country.

In competition, Hill was a member of the winning distance medley relay team at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships, and had a season’s best performance at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships to score with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. That effort also qualified her for her third-straight NCAA East Preliminary Rounds berth.

During her career, she was a three-time top-five finisher in the Big Ten Outdoor Championships steeplechase, including a bronze medal in 2019. She represented Michigan at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event, and donned the Red, White and Blue of Team USA for the 2018 World Athletics U20 Championships in a seventh-place finish.

She was a member of two Big Ten-winning distance medley relay teams and two more that claimed silver medals, and earned three All-America honors in the event. She also ran a leg of the relay team that established the school record and the fastest time ever run by a Big Ten squad. She was also a four-time Big Ten Championships scorer in the indoor mile.

On the cross country course, she was a three-time competitor for the Wolverines at the NCAA Championships.
