Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group Student Health Center at NIU is offering monkeypox vaccinations on Monday by appointment.

DeKALB – A Monkeypox vaccination clinic will be open on Sept. 26 at the Student Health Center. The clinic will be open to students, faculty and staff from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday only. Additional days to receive a monkeypox vaccination will be hosted based on interest, according to NIU Health Services.

The JYNNEOS vaccine is currently being offered at the Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group Student Health Center at NIU. The vaccine is available by appointment. The vaccine is two-doses and is given under the skin 28 days apart, according NIU Health Services.

The vaccination is recommended for people with certain risk factors who are more likely to be exposed to the virus. NIU Health Services notes that people at risk of monkey pox infection include men who have sex with other men, people who have had sex with multiple partners or group sex, people who have had sex at a commercial sex venue (like a sex club or bathhouse) or people who have had sex at an event or area where monkeypox transmission is occurring.

Monkeypox vaccinations will be completely free through NIU’s student health center. To schedule an appointment or inquire about clinic details, Health Services can be reached at 815-306-2777.
